Add Firefox default View Source option in addition to IE...!

During installation there is an option to set Hippo as the default View Source for IE...need this for Firefox too!
Response from the site administrator
HippoEDIT, 12.11.2010
From one side I agree with BuBBy, this can be added by user itself, but from another side it will be rather comfortable and easier for user if this can be done during installation or from editor itself by selectiong and option.
I will check efforts, and will try to implement if this not too complex (in editor itself should be no problem, but for installer can be complicated).

to easily disable the internal web browser - use the system default instead.

Clicking on web URLS in files - I want launched in Firefox. Hippo Edit can be configured to do this - but the research and work needed to achieve should simply be checking a box in the settings menu.
Response from the site administrator
HippoEDIT, 12.11.2010
Yes, this is a bug. Will be fixed in next 1.49 beta.

Add rtl support for Arabic, Aramaic, Hebrew and the likes.

This would be a match for notepad++, however, I cannot find any option to align my text to the right border, which is especially annoying when working with classical Semitic containing breathings. There seems to be a bug in the registration...
Response from the site administrator
HippoEDIT, 12.11.2010
Yes, RTL scripts are not supported by HippoEDIT for now. It is planned, but not for 1.50. Because of the targeting HE mostly as programmers editor, this was not really requested.

Add a Hex View mode (with basic editing) for editing data files (rather than opening up another editor as well)..

With many programming projects, there are times when you need to quickly modify data files. A Hex mode would be really useful.
Response from the site administrator
HippoEDIT, 12.11.2010
This is a valid idea, already requested by other users on forum:
http://forum.hippoedit.com/?/topic,233.0.html
I am planning to add this in minimalistic way after 1.50, when plugins infrastructure will be available.

Add Side by Side Compare option

it would be nice to have a Window tilted side by side and CODE comparision between different files built in to the Editor
Response from the site administrator
HippoEDIT, 12.11.2010
The idea was several times requested and a good candidate for a plugin.
Not currently implemented, but can be planned not earlier than for 1.60.
Till then you can use external tools for file diffs. To get information about this search on hippoedit forum for file compare.

It would be really helpfull to have FTP/SFT or SCP support built-in Thans
Response from the site administrator
HippoEDIT, 12.11.2010
The idea is already requested on forum: http://forum.hippoedit.com/?/topic,150.0.html (you can get there some thoughts). Generally accepted but only as a plugin

Add column mode to allow 'vertical' editing. It is a very useful feature especially when working with data files.

This is a very powerful feature of UltraEdit
Response from the site administrator
HippoEDIT, 10.11.2010
This already exist. Check Edit->Selection sub menu or simply keep Alt key pressed during selections.

in the project window, when you drag a folder to the project. it should also populate all the files and folders inside the editor and not just the folder name.

Response from the site administrator
HippoEDIT, 12.11.2010
Yes, this is valid and good idea. But probably not simply copy files but call prefilled Add Folder... dialog that user can skip file types he do not want.
This can be changed in 1.49 beta.

Add simple versioning handling when saving files

When quickly changing source code without CVS or the like it could be useful to save multiple BAcKup files with incremental or date&time in the name: source.cpp source.20101109182505.cpp source.20101109182618.cpp the options can include a...

Add support for Visual Studio and other IDEs

Many people already use IDEs such as Borland, Visual Studio, and eclipse. It would be helpful if you could offer a degree of compatibility with these environments: colour schemes, key bindings, import and export project files, ... ------ Alex:...
Response from the site administrator
HippoEDIT, 12.11.2010
Partially this already added, at least color scheme:
http://www.hippoedit.com/color_schemes.php
it also possible to add VS adopted keyboard mapping, http://www.hippoedit.com/keymaps.php
but not yet done
For export/import, do not know if this is really needed

Response from the site administrator
HippoEDIT, 10.11.2010
Because of the problem especially with PayPal payments for several HippoEDIT users, this way of payment was disabled for HippoEDIT orders on share-it (the reason for problems was PayPal itself).
Write to salesbox - hippoedit - com and we can organize this is personal manner.

Internal webbrowser tries download file of unknown type :-(

HippoEDIT, 10.11.2010
If you use File->Open when some web page is open (in active tab) in internal browser, the file will be open in it. It is a feature.
To open it in text editor just switch/close browser window.

Ok, maybe now I know. Editor harvest misspelled work for completion and has suggested it later. This was limitation of the 1.4x. Collected words were never refreshed. In 1.50 that already works as expected.

Windows 7 64-bit gives some strange error when closing the HippoEDIT window, some permission error?

Response from the site administrator

Response from the site administrator
HippoEDIT, 12.11.2010
1.50 will support plugins. Than we can go this direction and add more specific functionality depending on framework. Otherwise the basic idea of small editor will be lost, and people will get bunch of the stuff they do not really need.

It can be rather useful. I have seen alternative implementation of such functionality with multi selection / edit support.

Change the document processing so that when opening files from the context menu they don't open additional instances of the software but just extra tabs

Every time I open a file from the context menu it opens another instance of HE instead of opening an additional tab. This gets old fast. Fix this and it would be especially good.
